Cargo Claims Handling
Cargo damage, shortage or abandonment can require action before circumstances change or evidence is lost. Pandi Balt coordinates the local response in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, helping establish the cause and extent of loss and arranging the documentation, specialist input and negotiations required to progress the matter.
Damage, Shortage & Evidence
When cargo is damaged during carriage, loading, discharge or storage, prompt and accurate documentation is important for both claims handling and any subsequent legal proceedings.
Pandi Balt assists with the investigation of the circumstances, preservation of relevant evidence and communication with shipowners, shippers, consignees, cargo interests, terminals and other parties involved.
Surveys, Analysis & Evidence
Where technical evidence is required, we arrange independent surveys, laboratory analysis and other specialist assistance.
The findings obtained at an early stage can help establish the circumstances of the loss, support negotiations and, where an amicable settlement is not possible, provide the material required for legal proceedings.
Independent cargo survey services in Latvia can also be arranged through Baltic Kontor.
Abandoned Cargo
Abandoned cargo, particularly containerised cargo, can result in demurrage, storage, customs and disposal costs for the Member.
Pandi Balt assists with communication and negotiations with shippers and consignees, customs formalities, surveys and practical arrangements concerning the cargo, including its sale or disposal where appropriate.
Negotiations & Legal Support
Our involvement is not limited to the initial investigation.
Pandi Balt assists Members with negotiations and settlement of cargo claims and provides legal support where a dispute cannot be resolved amicably.
Baltic Coverage
Cargo claims are handled through our network in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, including Riga, Ventspils, Liepaja, Klaipeda and Tallinn.
